PURIFICATION- INTIATION

Most African peoples have rites and ceremonies to mark the significant changes of life. Where one changes from passive to active membership within a union, group or community.

Before the initiation, one must receive rituals to purify and clear away obstacles. As one experiences being reborn and the initiation marks a key moment in the rhythm of an individual’s life.

Rites of Initiation have many symbolic meanings, in addition to the physical drama and impact. Initiation rites also provide great educational purposes. The occasion often marks the beginning of acquiring knowledge which is otherwise not accessible to those who have not been initiated.

Great celebration accompanies the Initiation. To honor those who were inducted; to acknowledge their successful completion; and to launch their new status, having the unwavering support and strength of the group or community.
